The Niš fortress was built by the Turks in the middle of the 17th century, in the site of an ancient Roman fortified camp at the Nišava riverbank. The Niš fortress had a seven-sided basis, with five bastions, also with a mosque, sections of the hamam and a weapons dumb, which is today transformed into an exhibition gallery. |

Gamzigrad-Romuliana is a fortified palace and a memorial complex of the Roman emperor from the time of the Tetrarchy, Gaius Valerius Galerius Maximianus. It was built between 297 and 311, and intended to be the residence of the emperor after the vincenalia and his withdrawal from the throne. The late Roman fortified palace of Gamzigrad - Felix Romuliana was inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. |

Serbian Monastery

Pustinja Monastery is located in the western part of Serbia, near the river Jablanica, about 20 km from the town of Valjevo. The unique architecture and the beautifully built iconostasis indicate that patron took orthodox Yermenians to have the monastery built. The well-preserved frescoes were done in 1622. One of the most outstanding is the fresco of St John the Baptist. Today, the monastery complex works as a nunnery. |
